HIKING IN THE WHITE MOUNTAINS WITH YOUR DOG
So many trails to discover with you dog! Here are some that we did with Blackie.
Black Cap Trail: The start of the trail is about 10 minute drive from Cranmore Mountain Lodge, up Hurricane Mountain Road. It’s a very popular trail with dogs (so you will see lots of them there!) and a very easy hike. It takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to go to the Summit of Black Cap, with very beautiful views on the Valley. Even small kids can make it!
Kearsarge Trail: The start of the trail is a few minute drive from Cranmore Mountain Lodge (you can also hike to the start of the trail from Cranmore Mountain Lodge - about 10 minute walk). It starts pretty easy in the woods, but then it climbs constantly, with some difficult to very difficult parts (to our opinion), but once at the summit, the view is fantastic. There is a fire tower that you can climb to see even an amazing 360° degree view down the Mt Washington Valley and Maine. It took us about 5 to 6 hours round trip to make it and we were really tired but so happy we made it. Even for Blackie, it was challenging. Definitely not for kids though!
Arethusa Falls Trail: The start of the trail is about 20-25 minute drive from Cranmore Mountain Lodge, taking 302 North. It’s a beautiful hike, about 1 hour to get to the bottom of the very impressive highest waterfalls of New Hampshire and very rewarding for Blackie as he could bath once there. Some parts of the trail were slippery though, even in the Fall. But this is a good hike with kids too.
Diana’s Bath: this trail is almost downtown North Conway, on River Road, about 10 minute drive from Cranmore Mountain Lodge. Dogs must stay leashed, but it is a very easy path and you can actually swim in the waterfalls in Summer, after a mile hike. It is very well known and crowded though during the high season, but so magestic in the Spring when the snow melts. Kids love to go there too and it’s even easy to bring your small ones in a stroller.
There are of course plenty of other hikes that you can do with your dog, but remember that some of them require them to be leashed!
