If skiing is not your cup of tea and you are spending a few days here with friends or family, there are plenty of other “snow sports” and soft adventures in the Mt Washington Valley. Here is a list of things we’ve put together. For most of the activities, we propose a lodging package but we can build a “a la carte” package that will suit your needs.
If you can walk, you can snowshoe! Snowshoeing is the best way to discover the Mt Washington Valley, especially when you do it with an experienced guide who can help you get the best out of your winter hike, by sharing local secrets, following wild animal tracks in the snow, discovering snow covered boulders or icy formations along streams and guiding you into the wild. There are many options – clear days call for a hike up Mount Willard for sweeping views into Crawford Notch or a trip up Cathedral Ledge trail and the wonderful views of the valley and mountains. When the weather is less cooperative or the wind is strong and temps are low, there are still wonderful wild places to visit that are more sheltered and yet offer views of a different sort. Kris Ebbeson, your guide, proposes many dates for group hikes, but can also tailor a private hike just for you! She even proposes a unique Moonlight Snowshoe Hike on January 7, 2012. Our guests can also snowshoe for FREE on the trails of Great Glen Trails, right at the base of Mt Washington!
Muddy Paw Sled Dog kennel is a kennel comprised of 86 dogs, ranging from racing Alaskan Huskies, to Siberians and Malamutes. The kennel focuses of rescuing Alaskan huskies in need of a home, giving them a “job for life”. Their favorite thing to do is share the passion and adventure of dogsledding from the musher’s perspective. Tours aren’t just sitting in the sled and going for a ride, but involve interacting with dogs, and learning aspects of a culture that many people don’t get to experience. The kennel is located in the heart of the White Mountains, minutes from Santa’s Village and about 45 minutes from North Conway. Check our White Mountains Dog Sledding Package!
