White Mountains Snowshoeing with Kris Ebbeson

The White Mountains of New Hampshire are wonderful for snowshoers of all levels and age. Snowshoeing is the best way to discover the Mt Washington Valley, especially when you do it with an experienced guide who can help you get the best out of your winter hike, by sharing local secrets, following wild animal tracks in the snow, discovering snow covered boulders or icy formations along streams and guiding you into the wild. There are many options – clear days call for a hike up Mount Willard for sweeping views into Crawford Notch or a trip up Cathedral Ledge trail and the wonderful views of the valley and mountains. When the weather is less cooperative or the wind is strong and temps are low, there are still wonderful wild places to visit that are more sheltered and yet offer views of a different sort.

Your guide:

Since 1997, Kris Ebbeson has hiked the hundred highest mountain peaks in New England, including all of the 4,000 foot mountains in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, as well as several of the mountains in upstate New York. Many of them she has hiked more than once, in every season. She has also hiked in the Grand Canyon and in several of the nearby National Parks in the Southwestern U.S. You will learn some of the history of the area and the nature surrounding you, and she will help you capture beautiful photographs of sights along the way, all while providing you a very relaxing journey!

Hikes:

There are many options. Kris will decide according to the weather on the day of the hike, to provide you with the best experience possible. Hikes are approximately 2 to 4 miles long and are family friendly, but not recommended for children under 8. They are rated beginner to beginner/intermediate.

If you are interested in more challenging snowshoe hikes or a longer time, Kris will be happy to custom design something to meet your needs.

All hikes will start at 10 am. Kris will meet you at the lodge after breakfast and you will follow her car to the trailhead. You will be back at the lodge by 2 or 3 pm, depending of the time of travel to and from the trailhead.

Snowshoes:

You are welcome to bring your own snowshoes. If you don’t have any snowshoes, a limited number of snowshoes are available for rent. Rental rate is $10 and is on a first come, first served basis (to be asked upon reservation). You can also rent them at Eastern Mountain Sports or at Ragged Mountain.

Special Moonlight Snowshoe Hike – January 7, 2012

Weather permitting, this is a unique experience and a very easy hike of about 1 mile. Hot cocoa is included as well as the launching of a Chinese flying lantern, a $30 voucher valid towards dinner, 2 hand warmers, a Valley Pass and FREE vouchers for Great Glen Trail/Mt Washington Auto Road.

Limit is 12 participants maximum.

Kris Ebbeson’s cancellation conditions:

If Kris Ebbeson cancels the hike due to severe weather condition (blizzard, lack of snow…) a 100% refund will be generated or a credit will be given towards another hike.
If cancellation is made up to 15 days prior to the date of the scheduled hike, you may transfer the hike to another person or to another date, or you may cancel the hike. If you choose to cancel, you forfeit the 50% non-refundable deposit.
If cancellation is made within the 14 days prior to the date of the scheduled hike, no refund is possible
